Leisure time in Bath and North East Somerset
The Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty extends into the picturesque Limpley Stoke Valley and the restored Kennet and Avon canal flows through the eastern part of the district into the centre of Bath. To the South West the Chew Valley and its lakes border the Mendip hills.
There are a wide range of housing types available, from period to modern, both to rent and buy. In addition, a substantial number of new dwellings are planned between now and 2011, of which 30% minimum will be affordable housing. A substantial part of the new housing will be built at Western Riverside and the former MOD site at Foxhill – both in Bath.
The district offers excellent shopping facilities, with local needs served by the thriving centres of Keynsham and Somer Valley, while the City of Bath is a regional shopping centre offering a unique blend of national multiples and independent specialist retailers within a compact centre. The Southgate project in the heart of the city is set to begin in September of this year, which will greatly improve the shopping, restaurant and transport aspects of the city centre.
There are well equipped Sports Centres in Bath, Keynsham and Somer Valley and state of the art athletic and swimming facilities available to the public at the University of Bath. For the sports spectator, Bath is home to a world famous Rugby Club, a football Club, a racecourse and Somerset County Cricket Club's June festival.
There is a flourishing evening economy with plentiful theatres, cinemas and restaurants as well as town and country pubs and clubs and the district is developing an international reputation for the quality and range of its events and festivals.
